How much to charge for clipper services? (Guide to Rates & Market Prices)

It's one of the most stressful questions for an editor starting out or gaining experience: "What price should I ask for my clips?"

Too expensive, and you risk driving away small creators.
Not expensive enough, and you exhaust yourself working 60 hours a week for peanuts, while devaluing the clipping market.

To succeed as a freelance editor (freelance), it's not enough to know how to make nice cuts on CapCut or Premiere Pro: you need to know how to price your value.

In this article from the Level 5 of our Clipper Path, we analyze the different billing models in the market, the average pricing grids observed in France, and how to set your prices to live comfortably.

1. The 4 Billing Models in Clipping

There is not just one way to bill for a clipping service. The choice of model depends on your client's profile (individual creator, infopreneur, agency, or B2B brand).

🔹 Model 1: Billing per individual clip
The principle: The client pays you a fixed price for each delivered video (e.g., €15 or €30 per clip).
Ideal for: Testing the relationship with a new client on 1 or 2 trial videos.
Disadvantage: Not profitable in the long term and difficult to anticipate your revenue.

🔹 Model 2: The Clip Pack (Ex: Pack of 10 or 20 videos)
The principle: Sell a batch of clips to be delivered over a given period (ex: a pack of 10 clips taken from a YouTube show).
Ideal for: Securing volume all at once and offering a small unit discount to the client.

🔹 Model 3: The Monthly / Recurring Package (The Holy Grail)
The principle: A monthly contract where you commit to delivering X clips per week (ex: 12 clips per month for €400 / month).
Ideal for: Creating predictable recurring revenue and building a trusting relationship.

🔹 Model 4: Performance-Based Billing (By number of views)

The principle: A very low fixed fee (or free) + a financial bonus calculated based on the number of views achieved (ex: €0.50 to €1 for every 1,000 views).
Ideal for: Highly experienced clip creators who perfectly master retention and algorithms. This is particularly the model used in certain B2B campaigns.

2. Pricing Grid: How much to ask based on your level?
Here are the average price ranges observed in the French-speaking market based on experience and complexity of editing:
Clip Creator LevelUnit Price per ClipPrice of a Pack (10 Clips)Monthly Package (12-15 Clips)
-
Beginner (Simple subtitles, basic cut) €10 to €20€90 to €150€150 to €250
- Intermediate / Qualified (Sound Design, Worked Hooks, B-Rolls)25 € to 50 €220 € to 400 €350 € to 650 €
- Expert / Pro (Art direction, Motion design, Multi-network optimization)60 € to 120 €+500 € to 900 €750 € to 1,500 €+

⚠️ Beware of beginner traps:
Charging 5 € for an elaborate clip on micro-service platforms destroys your credibility. If a clip takes you 1 hour and 30 minutes of work, charging 5 € means working well below the minimum wage.

3. The 3 Criteria That Justify Raising Your Rates
To go from 15 € to 50 €+ per clip, you need to provide concrete evidence of value to your clients:
- The quality of the Hook & Retention: If you prove that your edits consistently exceed 50k or 100k views thanks to your hook structures, you can double your rates. (Read again: 📖 How to structure a vertical clip to exceed 100k views?).
- Mastery of specific formats: Mastering complex visual styles like the 💀 Skull Format or the 🎬 Double Format requires real technical know-how that is highly valued.
- Overall management of Repurposing: Taking charge of the entire process (rough cut, topic selection, editing, title writing, and TikTok/Shorts/Reels adaptation) allows you to sell pure time savings to the client. (Read again: 📖 The Complete Guide to Repurposing).

4. How to Present Your Rates to a Prospect?
When you start negotiating with a client or a creator, never give a flat price without context.
❌ Bad answer :
"I charge €25 per video."
✅ Good answer (Value and return on investment focused) :
"My rate is €25 per clip. This price includes extracting the best sequence, creating a custom Hook to stop the scroll, dynamic subtitling, Sound Design (sound effects), and optimized export for TikTok, Shorts, and Reels."
